I love Halloween and I’m so bummed that it’s going to be a little different this year. But it won’t stop me from dressing up, decorating the house and having fun. I already started looking for ideas back in August and I’ve come across so many fun little girl costumes and family costumes. I just had to share a round up of my favorite costumes we’ve worn in past years and some ideas I’ve seen as inspiration for this year.
HIPPIE FAMILY
Last Halloween we were on our big 3 month road trip through the US, so I decided we should select costumes that matched with our yellow school bus lifestyle. I pieced together hippie outfits on Amazon and they were perfect for Halloween.
Below are the links to everything we bought for these outfits, except for the jeans and shoes, which were our own. Just click on the photo and it’ll take you directly to Amazon to purchase that item. Both of our outfits were supposed to be dresses, but we are quite tall, so they were shorter than anticipated. I added jeans and my daughter wore shorts with it. I also linked more options that would work for a family hippies costumes on my Amazon Storefront.
OLD LADY
I have to start with my all time favorite costume. Charlie was 5 months old for her first Halloween and I made her an old lady costume. I found an inexpensive Carter’s onesie outfit that already brought the cardigan. Then I made her wig using pom poms, a hot glue gun and a wig cap. I finished off the look with old lady glasses on a pearl chain and some high socks. I will always treasure this picture.
Here’s everything you need to buy to recreate this old lady costume. Just click on an image below and it’ll take you directly to Amazon to buy it. The outfit comes in several colors, but they’re all available under the same link.
GHOSTBUSTERS & THE GHOST
I know this isn’t the traditional Ghostbusters ghost, but this family costume was planned the other way around. I fell in love with the ghost costume on Etsy and had to have it, so the best I could come up for us to match was Ghostbusters. I actually love how it came together. Once again our family has the too tall issue with our costumes. My husbands outfit wasn’t long enough (he’s 6’3) so we cut it to be just a shirt and he wore some khaki shorts with it. It’s Halloween, we improvise.
I found our Ghostbusters outfits on Amazon and the Ghost is from Etsy. Just click on the photo below and it’ll take you directly to the store to purchase it. There’s also several other options, so I added all of them to my Amazon Storefront.
SUPER MOM & SUPER BABY
Actually all 3 of us wore these outfits, but I don’t have a good picture of us together. For Charlie’s first halloween she wore 3 costumes (I’m that mom). The old lady which was my favorite, was for pictures. On Halloween night it was super hot in Miami and we spend hours outside handing out candy, so we decided on something comfortable. I always told her she was “SUPER CHARLIE” and would fly her around the room, which she loved. So we stuck with it and we were Super Mom, Super Dad and Super Charlie. I can’t find the exact outfit anymore, but I had a onesie made for her with her name on it and I just bought the rest of Superman shirts and accessories.
SNOW WHITE & THE 7 DWARFS
The last of her 3 costumes for her first Halloween was Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs. My aunt has this collection of Dwarfs, so I really wanted to photograph her with them since they were bigger than her. She wasn’t even sitting on her own yet. This Snow White costume is made by the same company that made her the Ghost costume the following year.
MORE FAMILY COSTUMES
I also found so many fun family costumes that have inspired me for this year. Here are some of my favorites that I came across on Instagram.
